Current Advocacy Vectors

Our policy advocacy is not theoretical; it is highly targeted and outcome-driven. We are currently engaged in high-stakes negotiations across several critical vectors to ensure the growth of the gas sector is unhindered by bureaucratic friction.

1. Smart Metering Rollout & Security

With millions of smart meters slated for deployment, we are working with the Ministry of Power and MoPNG to define robust, unified cybersecurity protocols (IS15959) and ensure NB-IoT/LoRaWAN communication interoperability across different manufacturers.

2. Rationalizing Import Duties

We are aggressively lobbying the Ministry of Finance to rationalize inverted duty structures where raw materials and sub-components attract higher tariffs than finished imported goods, creating an uneven playing field for domestic OEMs.

3. Hydrogen Blending Mandates

As India explores blending Green Hydrogen into CGD networks, AIGEM is leading the technical feasibility studies to determine safe blending limits (up to 20%) without requiring mass replacement of existing pipeline and valve infrastructure.

The Standardization Process

How AIGEM drives a new technical standard from concept to national implementation:

Phase 1: Need Identification

Members identify a gap in current standards or a new technological requirement (e.g., ultrasonic metering).

Phase 2: TWG Draft Proposal

The relevant Technical Working Group drafts a comprehensive whitepaper detailing the proposed specifications, tolerances, and testing methodologies.

Phase 3: Industry Circulation

The draft is circulated among all AIGEM members and CGD entities for peer review and consensus building.

Phase 4: Regulatory Adoption

AIGEM formally submits the consensus document to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and PNGRB for gazette notification and legal adoption.

Industry Standards & Advocacy

AIGEM serves as a comprehensive knowledge and collaboration platform, tracking critical regulatory updates and maintaining a searchable repository of standards.

Technical Working Groups

Our specialized divisions are the intellectual core of AIGEM. Members can nominate their top engineers to participate in these groups to directly influence the future of their respective product categories.

Metering & Analytics (TWG-M)

Current Mandate: Finalizing interoperability standards for prepaid smart meters and establishing unified testing protocols for Ultrasonic industrial meters to prevent testing delays at FCRI.

Piping & Fittings (TWG-P)

Current Mandate: Revising the material stress tolerances for MDPE pipes to accommodate variations in extreme Indian weather conditions, and standardizing electrofusion welding parameters.

Valves & Regulators (TWG-V)

Current Mandate: Developing a localized certification framework for high-pressure safety relief valves (SRVs) used in CNG cascade filling, reducing reliance on foreign certification bodies.

Safety & Instrumentation (TWG-S)

Current Mandate: Drafting the first indigenous standard for residential methane leak detectors, integrating them with auto-shutoff solenoid valves for PNG connections.

Future Fuels (TWG-F)

Current Mandate: Analyzing the metallurgical impact of up to 20% Hydrogen blending on existing gas network components and proposing necessary equipment upgrades.
